On Sunday, June 28, 2020 – beginning at 1:00 pm EST/7:00 pm CET – Luke Welch continues his weekly YouTube performances with a pair of keyboard Sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti. In addition to the introspective Sonata in B minor L. 147/K. 197, this week’s program also includes the infamous “Horn Call” Sonata in E major K. 23/K. 380.
Last week’s performance featured Domenico Scarlatti Sonata in A major, L. 483/K. 322. Welch is no stranger to Scarlatti, often performs this composer’s music in his recitals, and also released an all-Scarlatti album in 2017 which was also now available for digital download.
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the cancellation of regularly scheduled performances, Luke Welch has been releasing a weekly series of previously unseen performances on YouTube. The first performance of this series featured Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s iconic Sonata in A minor, K. 310.
That performance was followed by a recital of Beethoven and Chopin at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. The video series continues with a return to Welch’s former home of the Netherlands to present an all-Beethoven program in the southwestern city of Breda, followed by a recital in London, England where Welch performed works by Domenico Scarlatti, Chopin, and Canadian composer Oskar Morawetz. Welch’s latest release was the Op. 27 Nocturnes of Frédéric Chopin on June 14, 2020.
