The highly anticipated fourth album of pianist Luke Welch now has an official release date. Samuel Coleridge-Taylor: Piano Works is a recording featuring a collection of rarely performed solo piano pieces by the famed Black British composer, in addition to world-premiere performances.
On May 5, 2023, this Samuel Coleridge-Taylor: Piano Works album will be available worldwide in both physical (CD) and digital (streaming) formats. A self-described ‘Anglo-African’, Coleridge-Taylor was a leading composer of the early 20th century whose music had a profound impact in Europe and in the United States of America. Heralded by his contemporaries as the ‘African Mahler’, this moniker was given with utmost respect for Coleridge-Taylor’s excellence as a violinist, composer, and conductor.
Welch released the first single from this album, ‘Papillon’, in commemoration of Black History Month, which is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major music streaming platforms.
