This double-disc special collection of two albums is now available, featuring two prominent Black classical composers and includes rare and world-premiere performances. Northern Magnolias: Robert Nathaniel Dett Piano Works, represents the fifth commercial recording by pianist Luke Welch in addition to Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Piano Works, The Universal Language, Crossing Borders, and The Return: Beethoven and Schumann. This album features a full program of solo piano works by the famed Canadian-American composer Robert Nathaniel Dett (1882-1943). The recording exemplifies the artistry and brilliance of this highly acclaimed Black composer who sought to codify and promote the depth, magnitude, and beauty of the African and African-American cultures through his unique Classically-trained musical lens. The album officially released on Friday, October 11, 2024 in commemoration of the composer’s birthday.
