Luke Welch plays Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Papillon.
Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912) was a British composer who self-identified as Anglo-African and wrote many choral, instrumental, and keyboard works. His music, as well as his distinction and musical philosophies, heavily influenced many other Afri-classical musicians – including his contemporaries and future generations. Papillon, composed in 1908, features all of the notable characteristics that epitomizes Coleridge-Taylor’s music.
